Need help identifying strange button overlay on S5

I recently noticed 3 strange buttons on the upper left corner of my S5 that I cannot press and stay overlaid over everything...they are a "Pause", "Ex", and "Setting" cog wheel...I cannot take a screenshot of the issue because the screenshot only captures everything below this overlay, so I had to take a picture of my phone with another phone to post an example...it's incredibly hard to see in person as is (I just barely noticed it when there was a color shift while using another app) so apologize for how difficult it is to see in the picture...does anyone have any idea what app or system feature is causing this? Is this malicious in design? How do I disable it?
